International Brain Tumour Awareness Week – A View from New Zealand

It just so happens that the start of the 2022 International Brain Tumour Awareness Week (29 October to 5 November) coincided with a major cancer report being released in the United States which contained many of the key points that brain tumour patients around the world are seeking to highlight.

The report describes the continuing decline in death rates among many cancers, most notably lung cancer and melanoma, and puts this down to better prevention measures and better treatments. Unfortunately, brain cancer is not seeing any of these gains.

Brain Tumour Support NZ chair, Chris Tse, has penned this article which explains why brain tumours are missing out on the medical advances being made in other types of cancer, and what can be done about it. In doing so he proposes a Top Ten Wish List on behalf of the brain tumour community in Aotearoa New Zealand.
