We’re delighted to announce that Caroline Woon, a member of the Brain Tumour Support NZ Medical Advisory Board and Clinical Nurse Specialist in Neurosurgery at Wellington Hospital, has been awarded the DAISY Award for International Neuroscience Nurse Leadership at a recent conference in Australia.
The DAISY Award for International Neuroscience Nurse Leadership is presented annually by the World Federation of Neuroscience Nurses (WFNN). Globally recognised and widely respected, the award highlights nurses who truly go above and beyond the call of duty. Recipients are acknowledged for exceptional clinical skills, mentorship, patient and family education, professionalism, innovation in care, and the ability to inspire colleagues.

Caroline’s award underscores her significant contributions to neuroscience nursing and patient support in New Zealand and internationally. As a clinical nurse specialist, she brings extensive expertise, empathy, and leadership to neurosurgical care in Wellington. Her commitment to improving outcomes for patients and guiding fellow nurses embodies everything the DAISY Award stands for.
Earlier this year, Caroline transitioned into her role as Clinical Nurse Specialist in Neurosurgery at Wellington Hospital after years of impactful work as a neuroscience nurse educator. She is widely respected in Aotearoa New Zealand’s neuroscience nursing community, having amassed an impressive list of achievements across education, research, policy setting and running conferences.
Caroline is a board member of the Australasian Neuroscience Nurses’ Association and a valued member of our Medical Advisory Board. Her dedication to enhancing brain tumour care continues to provide major benefits for brain tumour patients in Wellington and throughout the country.
