At Brain Tumour Support Trust New Zealand (BTSNZ), we care deeply about your privacy. When you reach out for support, for example to request a Brain Box or connect with a Support Navigator, you trust us with personal information. We take that trust seriously and handle your information in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

When you contact us or request support, we may collect the following details:
- Your name and contact information (email, phone, postal address) 
- Your age and gender (if you choose to share it) 
- Your location, to help us connect you with local support 
- The reason for contacting us — for example, to request a Brain Box or receive support 
- Any other details you choose to share with us 
You can always choose what information you feel comfortable providing.
We collect and use your personal information to:
- Send you a Brain Box 
- Connect you with a Support Navigator or Support Friend 
- Provide information, guidance, and advocacy 
- Keep in touch about your support request 
- Improve our support services 
We will only use your personal information for the purpose it was collected, and we’ll always ask for your permission before using it in any other way.
Keeping Your Information Safe
We take practical steps to keep your information secure.
Your personal details are stored safely, either electronically in secure systems or in locked files, and only accessed by authorised BTSTNZ staff and volunteers who need it to provide support.
We do not sell, rent, or share your information with anyone else.
If we work with a trusted third party (for example, to deliver a Brain Box), we ensure they meet strong privacy and security standards too.
Keeping Your Information Safe
Your personal information is kept confidential. We will only share it if:
- You have given us permission 
- It’s used in a way that does not identify you personally 
- We believe it’s necessary to protect your safety or the safety of someone else 
If that happens, our Chief Executive will be notified.
Before you receive support (such as through Support Friends or online groups), we’ll explain how your information is used and ask for your consent.
You have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of any personal information we hold about you 
- Ask us to correct or delete information if it’s wrong or no longer needed
